Demo Case
Scenario
When a device is equipped with more than one homogeneous or heterogeneous wireless interface cards, it can be used for a variety of wireless networking applications. For example, a device equipped with two Wi-Fi interface cards can be used to deploy a wireless mesh network. Another example is when a device is equipped with one LTE interface card and one Wi-Fi interface card, it can be used to support the Wi-Fi offloading application for relieving the overload situation of LTE network.
In this example case, we show how to install four wireless interface cards on a multi-interface car, which is one of the network devices/nodes supported by EstiNet simulator. We also show how to let four network traffic flows pass through the four interface cards separately. The car equipped with four interface cards is car #2. The four interfaces include two 802.11p interfaces, one 802.11a/g interface, and one 802.11n interface. In addition, we arrange car #5 and car #6 to be single-interface cars each of which is equipped with an 802.11p interface, car #7 to be a single-interface 802.11a/g car, and car #8 to be a single-interface 802.11n car. During the simulation, car #2 sends four network traffic flows to other four cars through its four different interface cards. Note that the two communication channels used between car #2 and car #5 and between car #2 and car #6 are purposely arranged on different service channels so that there is no interference between them. For more information about the service channel, please refer to 802.11p/1609 protocol specifications.

Scenario
When we want to configure a vehicular network environment with signal-interference phenomenon, we can follow the following steps to achieve it.
- Choose the vehicle for generating interference signal. The chosen one, named jammer car, will interfere others’ communication during the simulation.
- Let the jammer car be unable to hear transmitted signal of other cars. With this configuration, the media access control mechanism of jammer car will not suppress its singal transmission during the simulation. In other words, the jammer car will continue transmitting interference signal during the simulation.
- Increase, if needed, the signal transmit power on the jammer car. This action is for not only extending the interference area but also augmenting the effectiveness of interference, i.e., reducing the delivery rate of network message transmission.
In this example case, we arrange three cars on roads. Among them, car #3 and car #4 will communicate with each other while car #2 will generate signal to interfere the communication during the simulation. When configuring the parameters, we purposely increase car #2’s receiver sensitivity to let car #2 be unable to hear car #3’s and car #4’s signal. In addition, we increase car #2’s signal transmit power to extend its interference area and to interfere the signal transmitted from car #3 and car #4. During the simulation, when car #3 and car #4 move into the signal transmission area of car #2, the communication between car #3 and car #4 is interrupted because of the interference.
